EPIC Online Technology Meeting on Micro and Nano-satellites in the New Space
Online Event

Miniaturization and reliability are the top requirements that can be addressed by current photonics technologies such as, but not limited to, miniaturized and low cost LiDAR, RaDAR & microwave photonics, optical network architectures, ultra-low datacom transceivers, Earth observation and monitoring, new atomic-clock concepts for both timing and navigation, as well as new quantum technologies and applications. Definitely an amazing spectrum of opportunities that will be discussed during the meeting with the major stakeholders.

Spirit of the meetings

During these online technology meetings, we are looking for the challenges the industry is facing and bringing together the entire supply chain to address these challenges. Bringing together end-users with component suppliers and system integrators that will answer the EPIC question “What can you do for them and what can they do for you” creates the perfect foundation to establish new business relationships and find ways for new collaborations and partnerships.

Speakers

Head of Technology Unit at Italian Space Agency, national delegate at Technology Harmonization Advisory Board and Space Components Steering Board, member of national delegation at Industrial Policy Committee of ESA. I’m currently responsible of ASI technology program including low, medium and high TRL developments, IOV/IOD missions for innovative technologies, guaranteeing the coordination of R&D activities of ASI at national and international level.

Head of Technology Unit at Agenzia Spaziale Italiana

Eduardo Margallo (CEO) is Mouro Labs’ founder and CEO. He successfully launched MedLumics, a medical device company based in Madrid, Spain. As its chief executive during the period 2011-2017, he led the development of the first Optical Coherence Tomography technology platform based on integrated optics, took a class II diagnostic product to market and raised more than €40M in private and public funding. Dr. Margallo holds a PhD in biophotonics from TU Delft (NL), an MBA from Brown University (USA), and MSc level degrees in telecommunications engineering, physics and electrical engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (ES), Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (ES) and Universität Stuttgart (DE).

Fabrizio Preda studied Physics Engineering in Politecnico di Milano, where he worked as a research fellow for 5 years after receiving his Master’s degree in 2015. He is author of several peer-reviewed articles and co-inventor of three international patents. Since 2018, he is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at NIREOS (www.nireos.com), a start-up and official spin-off company of Politecnico di Milano. NIREOS develops novel devices in the spectroscopy and photonics sector, both for the scientific and the industrial market.

Boris Eichhorn (Senior Manager New Venture) graduated with a master’s degree in industrial engineering from the Technical University of Darmstadt. Early in his career, he worked as a project manager in a strategy consultancy and for an in-house consultancy within Siemens. At SCHOTT, Boris leads New Venture projects in the areas of product, process and business innovation as well as Corporate Growth Platforms (e.g. LiDAR Sensors, New Space, Laser Processing, Augmented Reality).

Dr Bonora is a researcher for the National Council of Research of Italy, Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology (CNR-IFN). From July 2013 to 2015 is has been part time researcher for the CNR-IFN and part time senior research scientist for the Hilase project in Prague (Czech Republic) where he was responsible for the development of the adaptive optics system.
He has developed a research line in the design, realization and application of deformable mirrors and adaptive lenses. During his activity, he collaborated with many foreign and Italian institutes supplying them adaptive optics systems for ultrafast laser compression and shaping, for high power laser focusing and in vivo medical imaging.
He is one of the former member of the spin-off of the University of Padova Adaptica srl (2009). He is in the scientific committee and in charge of the organization of the international “Workshop for Adaptive Optics in industry and medicine 2015” that will be organized by the CNR-IFN in Padova.
