EPIC Online Technology Meeting on Optical Design and Simulations: Tools and Use-cases
Online Event

Optical design plays a crucial role in the photonics industry, where it is used to develop and optimize devices that manipulate and control light. From optical sensors and lasers to fiber optics and displays, the ability to design and optimize optical systems is essential for advancing the photonics industry. Optical designers are constantly pushing the boundaries of technology, developing new materials, techniques, and software tools to improve the design and optimization of optical systems. Looking ahead, the future of optical design in the photonics industry looks bright, with continued growth and innovation expected in areas such as virtual reality, autonomous vehicles, and quantum technologies. Advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence are also expected to revolutionize the field of optical design, enabling faster and more accurate optimization of complex optical systems. This meeting will gather experts from industry and R&D, to discuss main challenges of the field!

Speakers
Co-Founder at Pandao
Head of Optical Solutions at Synopsys

Flurin is an Optomechanical Engineer in the Ansys Optics Team in
Europe. He joined Ansys through the acquisition of Zemax early 2022
and was prior to that part of the Zemax Customer Support Team in
Europe.
His main tasks include helping and educating customers on the usage
of the Ansys Optical Portfolio (Lumerical, Zemax and Speos). Flurin
also conducts webinars, creates trainings content, and works on
improving the interoperability and cross-product workflows with other Ansys and non-Ansys
Products such as CAD Environments, FEA Solutions like Ansys Mechanical and other optical design
software such as Ansys Speos.

Optomechanical Engineer at Ansys

Lieven Penninck is an expert on optics and photonics modelling in various roles in industry and academia. Since 2019 he founded and manages PlanOpSim, a dedicated provider of software for meta-surfaces and nanostructured optics.

Founder and CTO at PlanOpSim

Holger Münz started his optical design career at Carl Zeiss SMT in 2002. He moved to Carl Zeiss Corporate Research & Technology in 2014 and is now Principal in the Optical Design and Concepts group, with a strong focus on method and tool development.

Principal Optical Design & Concepts at Zeiss

Guillaume Genoud leads the waveguide design team at Dispelix, which develops new architectures, geometries, and designs for diffractive waveguide combiners using Dispelix proprietary software. As team lead, he is responsible for coordinating the work of the waveguide designers, who develop the next generation of waveguide combiners in the internal R&D and deliver custom designs for Dispelix customers.
