This unique workshop will discuss how to structure and grow your company to ensure attractiveness towards investors. As companies prepare for high-volume manufacturing, they should not neglect the probable need to attract investment to be able to scale-up. This workshop will discuss from an investor’s perspective what to consider as you scale up. 2 presenters from the investment community and 2 presenters from companies will provide food for thought and a basis for discussion.

The workshop is organized by JePPIX, Medphab, and Phabulous, 3 European funded projects that help companies develop prototypes and scale up to volume manufacturing.

Dr. Noel Moore is the Chief Commercial Officer at Focuslight Technologies Inc, a high growth publicly traded photonics company specialized in photon generation, control and application. Amongst other duties, Noel is responsible for identifying target companies for investment and/or acquisition by the Focuslight group.

Tim joined BGF in January 2018 after actively supporting BGF on a number of projects over the previous 18 months. He is based in London and Cambridge and his main role is to identify and execute investments with a particular focus on tech-oriented propositions.

He also takes a lead role in developing relationships with partners that can help BGF better support key industry sectors. Tim has been active in the venture capital and start-up ecosystem for over 20 years, initially as an entrepreneur and then as an investor with SoftBank, NEC and DFJ ePlanet Capital. He has been a party to more than 120 investments across a broad range of sectors, stages and geographies. He has recently joined the BGF Investment Committee.

Ronald Müller is the Senior Strategy and M&A consultant of Vision Markets GmbH, a consulting firm dedicated to the global Machine Vision and Imaging market. Ron has consulted investors in company acquisitions from a few million dollars up to high 9-digit valuations as well as company owners with the sale of their businesses. He has been sitting at both sides of the table – sell-side and buy-side – multiple times. Based on this experience, Ron will present the key elements of a playbook for the successful sale of a company at maximum valuation. Ron holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering of the Munich University of Technology, is elected board member of the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA) and has 20 years of experience in the commercial computer vision market.

Dr. Frank Smyth is co-founder and CTO of Pilot Photonics, a scale-up company developing single-chip photonic integrated circuits enhanced with comb laser technology. He has raised over €10M in VC investment and R&D funding to develop Pilot’s unique technology for customers in the communications, aerospace and automotive industries.

Boudewijn Docter (Founder/President) started working in Photonic Integrated Circuits in 1998. He first worked as software developer and later as Photonic IC designer at start-up BBV, then Kymata and Alcatel Optronics. In 2010 he co-founded EFFECT Photonics as a spin-off from TU Eindhoven. In his current role Boudewijn is responsible for local and European partnerships and internal/external technology evangelism.
