Pilot Lines & Photonics Innovation Hubs Breakfast
San Francisco, CA, USA

THE PILOT LINES BREAKFAST & PHOTONICS INNOVATION HUBS BREAKFAST is a networking event addressed to companies interested in participating in the collective effort of Europe to introduce new photonic products into the big markets such as telecommunications, medical and security. A great opportunity to interact with the technology experts and decision makers of companies working in photonics and to learn how the Pilot Lines in Photonics can help your company in scaling up the production of the new photonic devices.

Since 2016, various European pilot lines have been created to scale up the manufacture of innovative photonics components and systems, with the twin aims of achieving self-sufficiency and enhancing European global competi-tiveness in the field of photonics. In this networking event we will take a brief look at the manufacturing capabilities set up by the European Commission to provide services for the pilot production of photonic devices to SMEs, focusing on achievements and challenges for the future.

REGISTRATION OF THE EVENT IS CLOSED.

Agenda and Description

PHABULOuS is the new European Pilot Line providing highly advanced & robust manufacturing technology for optical free-form μ-structures. It will unify Europe’s leading Companies and Research & Technology Organizations (RTOs) into a self-sustainable pilot line for the design and manufacturing of free-form micro-optical solutions. These latter components will be integrated into high added-value devices, spanning from micro displays for augmented reality, to innovative systems for professional, automotive, and transportation lighting to optical effects for luxury. The PHABULOuS consortium will synchronize its efforts to translate urgent and high-impact industrial needs into industrially relevant predictive software packages, manufacturing tools and processes, characterization methods for quality inspection and integration schemes, all necessary for the successful demonstration of this technology in pre-commercial production runs.

MedPhab is Europe’s first Pilot Line dedicated to manufacturing, testing, validation and up-scaling of new photonics technologies for medical applications ranging from diagnostics to surgical tools and therapeutics. The purpose of MedPhab pilot production line is to accelerate the commercialisation of diagnostic devices and instruments for treatment based on photonics, and to reduce the R&D costs. The chosen areas are devices intended for hospital use (assist doctors), home care devices (monitoring patient) and equipment for chemical diagnostics (based on use of serum, saliva or urine sample). MedPhab will also provide seamless transition from pilot line production to up-scaled production without a need for changing service providers. Use-case companies have been selected for the validation of the pilot line services covering both in-vivo and in-vitro domains.

JePPIX Pilot Line is the EC Manufacturing Pilot Line project for photonic integrated circuits. JEPPIX is the Indium-Phosphide Pilot Line for up-scaled, low-barrier, self-sustained, PIC ecosystem. InP photonic integrated circuits (PICs) offer game changing performance capabilities across multiple market sectors. InPulse is the EC Manufacturing Pilot Line which puts in place the technological and operational processes to:
1) Accelerate the uptake of PIC technology in new markets
2) Align scalable and inter-locking services and value chains
3) Accelerate time to market with predictive design for fewer and faster design cycles
4) Offer foundry processes at TRL7, sharing process optimization across products

PhotonHub will establish a single photonics innovation hub which integrates all of the best-in-class photonics technologies, facilities, expertise, and experience of 53 top competence centres across Europe under one roof as a one-stop-shop solution with open access for any company anywhere in Europe that wants to innovate with photonics.

Laser-Based Advanced and Additive Manufacturing (LBAAM) can radically change many industries and provide maximal benefits towards flexible manufacturing and highly digitalized production environments.

PULSATE will support companies with their implementation of LBAAM technologies with a focus on sectors where LBAAM technology is particularly beneficial, like aerospace, automotive, medical devices, industrial machinery, customised electronics, and textile clothing.

MULTIPLE develops cost-effective multi-modal monitoring solutions with a breakthrough impact on production quality and efficiency. It brings cutting-edge organic-electronics-based sensors, snapshot hyperspectral filters and dual-aperture imaging to deliver cost-effective spectrometers and camera cores in a broad VIS/SWIR range, complemented with cost effective laser-based chemometric sensors in the MWIR. On top of these sensors, MULTIPLE will develop novel multimodal monitoring systems that will be IoT native, by combining them with cloud, big data, and deep learning for agile development and orchestration of complex AI-based models to optimise production improving EU manufacturing competitiveness.
